Vancouver International Film Festival
September 26 - October 11, 2013
-As one of the largest film festivals in North America, VIFF brings Vancouver audiences some of the best films from around the globe. VIFF 2012 presented over 380 films from 75 countries to over 140,000 enthusiastic film-lovers.
Festival of Chocolate
October 15 - November 10
-The Fall Festival of Chocolate has been created to showcase everything one can or learn about cocoa and chocolate, meet our artisan Chocolatiers, our local businesses, chefs, cooking classes, wineries, breweries, even pork producers – yes, chocolate meets bacon. So, you can see, the Fall Festival is around for a long time – there is a lot to learn, taste, and appreciate! This series of events showcases an out of the chocolate box experience – education, health, events, people and products. Created to support our local economy, tourism, culinary tourism, British Columbia, and above all our people.
Fright Nights at Playland
October 11 - November 2
-Western Canada’s Scariest Haunt! Face your fears. Fright Nights possesses Playland from October 11 to November 2 and features 6 fright houses, 12 rides, and the freaky sideshow, The Monsters of Schlock.
Hopscotch - Beer, Whiskey & Spirits Fest
November 11 - 17
-17th annual festival to celebrate fine beers, spirits and whiskey. Many different events and workshops to learn and taste. On Friday November 15th and Saturday November 16th, the Grand Tasting Hall comes alive with 100+ exhibitors, 350+ products to sample, and 3000+ of your peers. Not only is there Premium and Craft Beer, Scotch, and all other whiskies, but as well, there is vodka, gin, rum, tequila, liqueur, and so many more types of alcoholic drinks to taste.
Vancouver Writers Fest
October 22 - 27
-The Vancouver Writers Fest turns reading into a community experience, bringing people together to share thoughts, explore ideas, and witness brilliant conversations. For the past 25 years, the Writers Fest has enriched our imaginations and the culture of our city and has touched and inspired thousands of lives by creating a forum for authors to connect with readers and by offering a vibrant exchange of ideas and conversation. The Festival is a celebration of story, told by authors, poets, spoken word performers, and graphic novelists. For six days in October, this celebration takes place in the cultural oasis of Granville Island, and continues throughout the year with the Incite reading series at the VPL, special events with leading writers and the Spreading the Word education programs at Lower Mainland schools and in small BC communities.
Vancouver German Christmas Market
November 22 - December 24
The Vancouver Christmas Market, located on the Plaza at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, is guaranteed to get you in the festive mood! Stroll through the festively decorated outdoor Christmas village and be treated to row upon row of illuminated wooden huts offering handmade gifts and tempting treats. Listen to the sounds of bells, trumpeters and carolers. As day becomes night, thousands of Christmas lights sparkle and delicious aromas of mulled wine and spicy gingerbread waft through the air.
